Catering price per plate in Delhi NCR (September 2026)
Most caterers won't share rates until you've handed over your phone number. Here are the real per-plate ranges across the Delhi NCR market, what changes them, and the hidden charges to watch for.
Per-plate catering rates by menu tier
"Per plate" means the cost per guest for the complete food service. These are the ranges we see across established caterers in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Anything meaningfully below the budget tier usually signals compromises in ingredient quality, staffing or hygiene.
| Menu tier | Veg / plate | Non-veg / plate | What's on the plate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple / Budget | ₹550 – ₹850 | ₹750 – ₹1,150 | 2 starters · 3 mains · dal, rice, 2 breads · 1 dessertBest for: Bhandara, havan, house functions, office lunches |
| StandardMOST BOOKED | ₹850 – ₹1,250 | ₹1,150 – ₹1,600 | 4 starters · 5 mains · dal, 2 rice, 3 breads · 2 desserts · 1 live counterBest for: Roka, engagement, birthdays, mid-size weddings |
| Premium | ₹1,250 – ₹1,800 | ₹1,600 – ₹2,100 | 6 starters · 7 mains · 2 rice, 4 breads · 3 desserts · 2–3 live countersBest for: Weddings, sangeet, reception, corporate galas |
| Luxury / Fine Dining | ₹1,800 – ₹2,800+ | ₹2,100 – ₹3,500+ | 8+ starters · multi-cuisine mains · imported/exotic ingredients · 4+ countersBest for: Destination weddings, farmhouse receptions, luxury brands |
Live counter costs
Live counters are priced per guest on top of your base menu, because each one needs its own chef, equipment and fuel. They're the single biggest swing factor in most wedding quotes.
| Live counter | Additional cost |
|---|---|
| Chaat counter (golgappa, tikki, papdi) | ₹80 – ₹140 / guest |
| Tandoor / kebab counter | ₹120 – ₹220 / guest |
| Pasta / Continental counter | ₹110 – ₹180 / guest |
| Dosa & South Indian counter | ₹90 – ₹150 / guest |
| Chinese / Oriental wok counter | ₹110 – ₹190 / guest |
| Live jalebi, rabri & malpua | ₹70 – ₹130 / guest |
| Ice cream / dessert bar | ₹80 – ₹150 / guest |
| Mocktail & beverage bar | ₹100 – ₹200 / guest |
Three worked event budgets
Ranges are useful, but full budgets are clearer. Here's how the numbers add up at three common event sizes — illustrative calculations to show the maths, not a specific past invoice.
Example: 150-guest engagement
Standard veg · 4 starters, 5 mains, chaat counter, 2 desserts
| Food — 150 guests × ₹950 | ₹1,42,500 |
| Chaat live counter | ₹13,500 |
| Service staff | Included |
| Crockery & setup | Included |
| Total (before GST) | ₹1.56 lakh |
| Effective per guest | ₹1,040 |
Example: 400-guest wedding
Premium mixed · 6 starters, 7 mains, 2 live counters, 3 desserts
| Food — 400 guests × ₹1,250 | ₹5,00,000 |
| Tandoor + chaat counters | ₹68,000 |
| Premium crockery upgrade | ₹24,000 |
| Event captain + staff | Included |
| Total (before GST) | ₹5.92 lakh |
| Effective per guest | ₹1,480 |
Example: 800-guest wedding (farmhouse)
Luxury multi-cuisine · 8 starters, Mughlai + Continental + Oriental stations
| Food — 800 guests × ₹1,850 | ₹14,80,000 |
| 4 live counters | ₹1,96,000 |
| Mocktail bar | ₹88,000 |
| Outdoor mobile kitchen & logistics | ₹65,000 |
| Staff + captains | Included |
| Total (before GST) | ₹18.29 lakh |
| Effective per guest | ₹2,286 |
All figures exclude GST. Your actual quote depends on menu, venue, date and headcount.
What makes the price go up or down
Seven variables account for nearly all the difference between a ₹850 plate and a ₹2,000 plate.
Bulk purchasing and fixed setup costs spread wider. A 500-guest event typically costs 12–18% less per plate than the same menu for 100 guests.
Each additional main adds roughly ₹60–₹120 per plate. Counter-intuitively, guests eat less of each dish as the count rises, so 12 dishes rarely feels twice as generous as 6.
Non-veg menus run ₹250–₹500 higher per plate. Mutton and seafood are the biggest drivers; chicken is closest to veg pricing.
Each counter adds ₹70–₹220 per guest because it needs its own chef, equipment and fuel. Two counters is the sweet spot for most weddings.
Peak wedding season (Nov–Feb) and auspicious dates carry a 10–20% premium. The same menu in July can be meaningfully cheaper.
Venues without kitchen access need a mobile setup. Farmhouse and outstation events add transport, fuel and staff travel.
Buffet is most economical. Plated/sit-down service needs 1 server per 12–15 guests instead of 1 per 25–30, roughly doubling staffing cost.
What's included vs charged extra
The most common cause of budget disputes isn't the rate — it's a mismatch about what the rate covers. Here's our standard split.
✓ Included in our per-plate rate
- All food as per the agreed menu, cooked fresh on site or in our kitchen
- Professional service staff at the correct guest ratio
- Buffet setup, chafing dishes, serving equipment
- Standard crockery, cutlery, glassware and linen
- Complete setup before the event and cleanup afterwards
- A dedicated event coordinator as your single point of contact
✕ Not included — quoted separately
- Venue rental — Booked directly by you with the venue
- Alcohol & licences — Excise permit is the host's responsibility
- Décor, flowers, lighting — Available through our partners, quoted separately
- DJ, photography, entertainment — Not part of a catering quote
- GST — Charged at the applicable rate on top of the quoted amount
- Outstation travel & stay — Applies beyond our standard NCR service area
Hidden costs to watch for
These are charges that most often appear after a quote is signed — anywhere in the market, not just with us. Ask about every one of them before you book, with whichever caterer you choose.
Some quotes price food only, then add ₹40–₹80 per guest for service staff at the end.
How we handle it: Ask us for a written quote that states staffing separately, so there's no ambiguity.
You may be billed for 400 guests even if 320 attend. Confirm the minimum billing clause in writing.
How we handle it: Talk to us about your expected headcount — we'll confirm our minimum-billing and adjustment terms upfront.
Basic melamine is quoted, then premium crockery is added as an extra at ₹60–₹150 per guest.
How we handle it: Ask us to itemise crockery in your quote so any upgrade is priced before you sign, not after.
Service beyond a fixed window (often 4 hours) triggers overtime for the full team.
How we handle it: Confirm your service window in writing before you sign — we're happy to put it in the quote.
Added late for outdoor or farmhouse venues once the venue is confirmed.
How we handle it: Tell us your venue upfront and we'll quote travel as part of the total, not as a surprise line item.
How to reduce cost without losing quality
We'd rather you spend ₹4 lakh well than ₹6 lakh badly. These six changes typically cut 20–30% from a catering budget with no visible drop in guest experience.
Six excellent dishes beat twelve average ones. Guests physically cannot eat twelve mains, and leftovers are money thrown away.
July–September weddings cost significantly less than the Nov–Feb peak, and you get better staff availability.
Counters create queues. Two well-run stations feel more generous than five understaffed ones.
Well-executed regional Indian food is more memorable to most guests than imported ingredients they can't identify.
Over-declaring “just in case” is the most common way hosts overspend. Caterers already build in a buffer.
Plated service roughly doubles the staff requirement. Buffet suits Indian menus with many dishes better anyway.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average catering price per plate in Delhi NCR in 2026?+
In 2026, vegetarian catering in Delhi NCR typically ranges from ₹550 to ₹1,800 per plate, and non-vegetarian from ₹750 to ₹2,500 per plate. Most weddings land in the ₹1,000–₹1,500 range for a standard menu with one or two live counters. At Negi Catering our packages start at ₹650 per plate, with our most-booked Gold package at ₹1,050 per plate.
How much does catering cost for 200 guests?+
For 200 guests at a standard veg menu of ₹950 per plate, food comes to about ₹1,90,000. Adding one live counter (roughly ₹100 per guest) brings the total to approximately ₹2,10,000 before GST. Service staff, crockery, setup and cleanup are typically included in a caterer's per-plate rate — always confirm this in writing.
Is GST included in the per-plate catering price?+
No. Catering services attract GST, which is charged on top of the quoted per-plate rate. Any caterer quoting a price “including everything” without mentioning GST is either absorbing it or will add it later — always ask for a written, itemised quote that states GST separately.
Why do caterers charge different rates for the same menu?+
The main differences are ingredient quality, staff-to-guest ratio, whether crockery and setup are included, and kitchen hygiene standards. A ₹600 plate and a ₹1,200 plate can list similar dish names while differing in paneer quality, oil reused or fresh, number of servers, and kitchen hygiene standards. Always compare what is included, not just the headline number.
Do I pay for children and staff at the event?+
Children under 5 are usually not counted. Children aged 5–12 are often billed at 50%. Your event staff — DJ, photographers, decorators, drivers — do need feeding, so plan 10–15 extra plates, typically billed at a reduced rate.
How much advance payment does a caterer require?+
Standard practice in Delhi NCR is 25–30% at booking to block the date, 40–50% a week before the event, and the balance on or just after the event day. Be cautious of any caterer demanding full payment upfront, and always get the payment schedule in writing.
Can I reduce the per-plate cost without lowering quality?+
Yes. The most effective levers are reducing the number of dishes (six excellent dishes beat twelve average ones), limiting live counters to two, choosing an off-season or non-auspicious date, and declaring an accurate headcount rather than over-estimating. These four steps can reduce your total by 20–30% with no visible drop in quality.
What is the minimum order value for catering in Delhi NCR?+
Most established caterers have a minimum of 50–100 guests for outdoor events. Talk to us if you have a smaller house party or function — many caterers, including boutique ones, will still cater from 25 guests upward.
What's the difference between catering charges per plate and the final catering plate price I pay?+
The catering rate per plate you're quoted usually covers food, staff and standard crockery — but the final catering plate price can run higher once GST, live counters or premium crockery are added on top. Always ask for a written quote that itemises the base catering charges separately from these add-ons, so the plate price you agree to is the plate price you actually pay.
